Beer Image Beer Name: Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale
Brewer Name: Samuel Smith's Old Brewery
Style: Brown Ale
Beer Description: * Often called “mild” if it is on draft, brown ale is a walnut-colored specialty of the North of England. A festive-occasion beer, brown ale is one of the oldest English brewing styles, mentioned in literature in the 16th century. Beers brewed at the old brewery have a round, nutty flavor because of the Yorkshire square system of fermentation. Walnut-like color and palate of hazelnuts. Wonderful balance of roasted crystal malt and aromatic hops. Long clean finish.

I'm not a big fan of Brown Ales but this one is quite nice. Like all Sam Smith's it is well balanced. I liked the mild bitterness and the clean finish.

I like most porters and stouts better. Since I haven't tried many nut-brown ales, I can't say how well this one represents the style. I found it a little too sweet for my taste, but it would go well after a meal with bread pudding.

Nutty, sweet and malty with a good balance which makes it really drinkable. Not too sweet, with a nice bitter finish.

Excellent brown ale. Taste is very rich and smooth but not too sweet like other browns.
